The Perfect Office
A pond, lawn, and blanket are the main ingredients to the perfect office. My idea of an office paradise is one in which the outdoors are highly utilized. In fact, the outdoors is a perfect place for an office. My picture perfect scenario is a large patch of grass with a pond and ducks with a table and canopy for rainy weather. This piece of property will be at least one acre fenced in for mine and my pets’ safety. The fence also allows me to let my dogs and cats run wild. In order to keep the cats from jumping out of the yard I would have to make sure the fence is solid and high enough. Trees near the fence can also be an escape route for felines.
In order to maintain a broadband Internet connection I will need to have at least a small house on the property so I can sign up for cable. I would then install a wireless network and use a laptop. A refrigerator would be in the house for my lunch. For evenings when I work late I’ll have several really good outdoor lights and a fireplace for warmth.
The security implemented will be my dogs. They will keep me and my cat’s safe while I work. If my work goes really late I can use my outdoor establishment as a location for camping. If the property does not have a natural pond you could install one fairly cheaply. Privacy from neighbors will be achieved through high trees and brush. If the property is greater than an acre then the distance from the center will be privacy enough.
I could also use my SUV and an attached tent on the back for temporary shelter if my canopy is insufficient. There are a number of tents that fit different trucks and it turns a truck and a tent into one big connected room. An office doesn’t need to have walls in order to be hospitable enough to stay warm and lit enough to work on a computer. There are relatively efficient ways of heating outdoor space even when electricity is absent.
Another great location for an outdoor office would be on a small island. Small islands for sale aren’t nonexistent. Your daily commute would be a canoe trip rather than a drive and would provide a natural barrier (the body of water that the island is in) to keep pets in and predators out. An island would also take care of the need for a pond. If the island is in a lake the water fowl will likely be present. It would be hard to establish a permanent residence or even a slab of concrete on an island due to the inability to bring trucks onto the island, which would probably guarantee that a makeshift restroom (www.bonshops.com) would be needed.
