Islands For Sale By Government

islands for sale by government
Can anyone give me any information on starting a business on one of the greek islands?

I am looking to start a small business on one of the greek islands next year selling alcoholic drinks and small gifts around a lively resort. Early projections and contacts I have prove that the business will be a success. Can anyone give me any information of alcohol licensing laws in resort? Also anyhing like, are there taxes to pay on alcohol sales? Does the alcohol we are selling need to be verified by a government source before it can be sold? Anything that may help me get this business up and running over the next few months ready for next season, the Greek Embassy are being useless! I just want to make sure that we do everything above board and don’t get caught out on anything in resort.

Thanks

First of all, ignore the troll above, just a Greek-hater.

- Can anyone give me any information of alcohol licensing laws in resort? I can’t help you on this. Try looking here:

The website of the Greek Ministry of Finance may be useful:

http://www.mnec.gr/

I believe to get the license you’ll have to as a “Nomarchia” office (the Nomarchia is the prefecture, like say, “Counties”), here some websites of Prefectures in some islands:
(Corfu prefecture) http://www.kerkyra.gr/
(Heraklion prefecture – Crete) http://www.nah.gr/
(Chania prefecture – Crete) http://www.chania.eu/
(Dodecannese prefecture) http://www.nad.gr/
etc.

- Are there taxes to pay on alcohol sales? Well, it’s going to be a small business, so of course you’ll have to pay taxes. You’ll also need to pay a small tax to get the license, I believe.

- Does the alcohol we are selling need to be verified by a government source before it can be sold? I don’t think a Government official will come checking every bottle you are selling in your bar, but maybe they will check the bottles you are selling have regularly paid the Greek tax on alcoholic beverages. You cannot import something illegally from like, say, Ukraine, and then sell it in Greece.

Have you also tried a Greek Consulate? Sometimes they help you out better than the Embassy on these things.
