I heard on the news that Cedar Point might be going up for sale. Can anyone confirm?
Why would Cedar Fair sell its flagship park? The one that has been voted Best Park on the Planet for like 8 yrs running, and hold about 7 world records. I mean they just bought up Geagua Lake (sp?) a couple of yrs ago and Kings Island more recently, so they dont even have any competition in Ohio anymore. Does anyone have more info?
I recently read, I believe it was on the motley fool an article that was saying Cedar Fair company was prime for a buyout and they were suggesting Disney as the buyer. They believed that if Disney were to acquire the Cedar Fair company it would help them a lot with current expansion plans into smaller, regional parks and water parks. Cedar Falls has to license all the characters you see at the parks and this is a big expenditure where Disney owns their characters and could easily re-theme some of the parks to Disney while selling off some of the parks to generate capitol for the conversions. I haven’t heard of Cedar Fair wanting to sell any specific parks or even the whole company, just the suggestion of a Disney acquisition of Cedar Fair as a whole might be a good move at this time. Keep your eye on the news, this would be fairly big and newsworthy and I would expect if anything were going to happen it would be after the end of the theme park season late this year or early next.
But again, this is all speculation and neither company has said anything about buying or selling anything. It might all just be a financial annalists take on things.
