Stuyvesant Aeolian Upright Piano?
I went to a garage sale here in Long Island, NY and saw a Stuyvesant Aeolian Upright Piano, with a serial number 117211. The piano seems to have been kept in good condition. The hammers for the C keys are hard to press (maybe from overuse) but the rest play well. There are only 2 pedals. The keys look like they are marble. This would be my first time looking at these kinds of pianos as I only play the electric keyboards. I would like to know how much should I offer for this type of piano. Thank you for your assistance.
I haven’t a clue, old pianos can be gems or a real pain. The down side is they are often made of oak and are heavy, the up side is they can have beautiful tone and resonance. The first site has a reference to Stuyvesant the rest are some sites for old and Aeolian pianos. You probably can’t go wrong with around $100.00 to 200.00, but I would check with piano technicians in your area for the cost of the hammer repair. Also if you have a digital tuner, check to see if the piano is tuned to 440. Some of those older pianos were not and it it is say 338, bringing it up to pitch might be a problem. The two pedal situation may indicate a broken pedal or it may be an old player piano. The keys are made of real ivory. Good luck.
